Matt Jones, considered one of the top 20 juniors in the nation depending which site you read, committed to Duke on November 29th. Jones had been leaning towards Duke for a fairly long time, but found it was time to finally make it official. Texas, Florida, Kansas and North Carolina were the finalists for the guard who drained 3-pointers at a whopping 45-percent clip as a sophomore. Obviously one of the main reasons he chose Duke is because of Coach K, and the way they space the floor, and try to get their shooters open which is more helpful to his game. "They tried to compare me a little to J.J. Redick in that we both can shoot and they'd get me open like they did him," Jones said. Another thing to keep an eye on is that Jones plays on the same AAU team has Julius Randle, who is a consensus top 5 player in his class which is also on Dukes radar. When asked what set Duke apart from other schools “Just how they play,” Jones told CBSSports.com when asked why he chose the Blue Devils. “Academics. It felt like coaches could take me to the next level. It felt like home away from home. Plus, my whole family liked my decision.”When Jones arrives at Duke in 2013 his role will be primarily to replace the departed Andre Dawkins as the main, or designated shooter. As a sophomore Jones averaged 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists per game. While Jones shooting is absolutely outstanding, he can get to the rim against most defenders, and an above average passer. Jones is a good, but not elite athlete, but is a very crafty player. In Jones, Duke has a savvy and skilled player that is among the top-5 shooting guards in the class, and an apparent great fit for the program.
